CFB Power Ratings

Neutral-field power ratings for every FBS team — updated weekly.

#TeamRecordRating

Ratings are a neutral-field power scale: the difference between two ratings is the projected margin if they played today on a neutral field (home-field edge of 2.5 is added back in for actual matchups). Every team starts with a preseason rating, which stays in its average all year. Each game, the model uses both teams' current ratings to produce a point spread and compares it to the actual score. If the home team was supposed to win by 4 and won by 10, the model was off by 6: the home team earns +3 and the away team -3 on top of the rating it came in with, and that becomes the team's data point for the week. A team's rating is the equal-weight average of its preseason rating and every game data point so far, and that new rating is what next week's spreads are built from. So winning as an underdog or beating the spread lifts you, and losing by less than expected barely hurts. A miss is capped at 24 points before it's split, games against FCS/lower-division opponents use one shared placeholder rating (40), a bye week adds no data point, and individual games can be manually adjusted from Manage Data without changing their actual final score.
